SHAKEOUT

During week 2 and three Room 3 and 4 have been learning about earthquakes. We researched facts about earthquakes and earthquake safety, including the importance of having an plan in place before an emergency arises.  We planned and created posters giving information about earthquakes. Along with the rest of the school we participated in the NZ wide ‘Shakeout’ earthquake drill. We hope we never have to experience a serious earthquake but if it happens, we know what to do...

Grandparents Day

On Friday we celebrated Grandparents Day!
We went to Mass and then had a lovely shared lunch followed by performances from our Sheridan Irish dancers, folk dancing and Kapa Haka as well as the choir and ukulele group.
We wrote some messages to our grandparents about why we love them and made a mural!

Mary Mackillop Day

Last Wednesday was the feast day of Saint Mary Mackillop.
The whole school attended Mass and afterwards we went into our buddy classes to do some exciting art work. Room 3 and Room 8 made some wonderful collages of Mary Mackillop and Room 4 and room 6 made a big mural. In Room 6 we made a large St Mary MacKillop doll and we placed paper dolls of ourselves around her. It was such a fun day working alongside each other, we all had so much fun! Happy Saint Mary MacKillop Feast Day.

The Holy Spirit

In the first half of this term we have been studying the Holy Spirit in Religious Education. Last week we did an activity, where we were experiencing the joy of the holy spirit. We talked about what 'joy' looks like, feels like and sounds like. Check out our photos below.

Samoan Language Week

Talofa lava, last week was Samoan Language Week. We did a lot of prayers in Samoan, listened to some stories from Samoa and learnt some Samoan words. Mackenzie's mum, aunty and nana came to visit us and shared some coconut bread with us and answered some questions about Samoa. Mackenzie and her aunty did a Samoan dance for us. On the Wednesday, children could come to school dressed in Samoan traditional dress.
